Siegwerk Thailand shares sustainability messages with “CE for Children”

Thailand

Siegwerk Thailand team organized a day of fun activities to introduce the children at the nearby Samutsakorn industrial estate school to the practicalities of sustainability and the Circular Economy (CE). As part of the company’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities aimed at mentoring children and young adults, the program called “CE for Children,” started with the donation of recycling bins where the students will have the opportunity to recycle on their own.

The kids were then separated into three groups where they all played games which related to the CE principles of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.

The Reuse game incorporated dice with pictures of different objects. Depending the picture that appeared on the dice, the kids learned ways of reusing each item. For example, a plastic bottle can be used to water plants, be made into a pencil box or used to hold a potted plant.

The Reduce game used pictured items to give examples of how to reduce waste. Using a lunch box instead of styrofoam packaging or a fabric bag to carry items instead of plastic.

Lastly, the Recycle game showed the students how to collect and separate garbage by using their new recycling bins. The children were divided into two group where they competed against each other while separating out paper, glass, plastic and aluminum garbage.

Education is key factor in raising awareness about the benefits and simplicity of recycling. CSR activities such as this with youngsters help create awareness and life-long habits to increase sustainable lifestyles. A key factor in Siegwerk’s strategy for the future, this is another way our Siegwerkers give back to the communities where we operate.
