Sustainability

Sustainable Products start with Sustainable Procurement

SustainUP is Siegwerk’s global sustainable procurement program, designed to holistically advance sustainability and human rights throughout our supply chain. Sustainability is central to Siegwerk’s strategy and future vision. With SustainUP, we go beyond meeting regulatory requirements to actively shape responsible procurement. Our customers and partners expect leadership in sustainability, and this program is designed to meet those expectations.

We believe sustainability is a shared responsibility. By collaborating with our suppliers, we address challenges, drive innovation, and build a resilient, transparent supply chain. SustainUP is a key part of our HorizonNOW strategy, making responsible procurement an integral part of our company strategy and operations.

EcoVadis has honored us with a recognition we are truly proud of.

Sustainability begins at the source

Importance of Suppliers in Siegwerk‘s Sustainability Strategy

By aligning "how we produce" with "what we produce", we create a seamless cycle of responsibility. Sustainable procurement is the cornerstone ensuring that every product reflects ethical choices and environmental care. When operations and products work in harmony, sustainability isn’t just a goal; it becomes a way of doing business contributing to the sustainable product offering we thrive for.

Sustainability needs to be thought end-to-end

Commitment - Why sustainable brands matter

End-consumers demand sustainable products and eco-friendly packaging solutions from Brands, and they are passing down expectations to suppliers. Sustainability in the (packaging) industry becomes a license to operate and it requires value chain collaboration.

Sustainable procurement at Siegwerk is built on collaboration across the entire value chain from raw materials to end-market consumption. By prioritizing human and labor rights, reducing environmental impact, and enabling safe, circular, and low-carbon packaging, we create a responsible supply network. This approach helps us stay competitive while meeting evolving market demands and regulatory requirements.

Regulatory Frameworks

SustainUP addresses the requirements of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Law (LkSG), ISO 20400 and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). Our approach ensures that Siegwerk remains compliant with current and future regulations, while also setting ambitious internal standards for responsible procurement.

Human Rights

Human Rights in Business Context

We have set clear targets to ensure that all of our suppliers are aligned with these standards.

Our Business Partner Code of Conduct and Human Rights Guiding Principles emphasize transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Rather than relying solely on compliance checks, we prioritize real change through open dialogue and ongoing support.

Carbon

Decarbonization

Supporting our long-term ambition to achieve net zero by 2050.

Siegwerk has set ambitious goals to reduce Scope 3 emissions generated by purchased goods and services by 25% by 2030, as part of our Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment. Scope 3 emissions account for a major proportion of our total carbon footprint, making supplier engagement and data quality critical to our success. We work closely with suppliers to help them measure, report, and reduce their carbon emissions, supporting our long-term ambition to achieve net zero by 2050.

Expectations for our Business Partners

We are strengthening collaboration with our suppliers by moving beyond traditional priorities of supply, cost, and quality to embrace sustainability as a core principle. By embedding sustainability across our operations end-to-end, we build resilience and remain agile in the face of an ever-changing world. Together, we aim to make procurement decisions that deliver value and reliability while promoting environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

Through this partnership-driven approach, we create long-term success and a shared commitment to a sustainable future.
