Siegburg, Germany, October 5, 2026 – Siegwerk, one of the leading global providers of printing inks and coatings for packaging applications and labels, has released its Sustainability Report 2025. The new report highlights progress on key sustainability topics, including climate action and responsible sourcing, while also representing the company’s first sustainability report prepared with reference to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), the reporting standards on which the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is based. Although Siegwerk was not yet legally required to do so, the company voluntarily adopted the reporting framework to increase transparency and align with evolving European reporting practices.
A central feature of the new sustainability report is the ESRS-aligned Double Materiality Assessment (DMA). The assessment examines both how Siegwerk’s activities affect people and the environment (the inside-out perspective) and how sustainability-related external developments may affect the company’s business (the outside-in perspective). It identified climate change, circular economy, pollution, workforce health and safety, as well as human rights in the value chain as the sustainability topics most material to the company from both an impact and business perspective. These findings establish the basis for sustainability disclosures and provide a framework for prioritizing actions and measuring progress in the years ahead. “The DMA gave us the opportunity to take a structured look at the sustainability topics that matter most to our business and stakeholders,” said Alina Marm, Head of Global Sustainability, at Siegwerk. “At the same time, it confirmed that many of the areas we have already been focusing our efforts on will remain priorities going forward.”
The 2025 report also provides examples of progress made during the reporting year. Compared with the 2020 baseline, Siegwerk reduced Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions by 26.5 percent and market-based Scope 2 emissions by 100 percent, supported by the company’s strong commitment to sourcing 100 percent renewable electricity across its global operations. In addition, the company expanded its focus on value chain sustainability through the launch of SustainUP, its supplier engagement program, which received the EcoVadis Best Newcomer Award earlier this year. Siegwerk itself also achieved EcoVadis Gold status in 2025, placing the company among the top-performing businesses assessed worldwide.
Overall, the new report provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s progress under its HorizonNOW 2025 sustainability strategy. From 2021 to 2025, Siegwerk achieved four of its six sustainability targets and exceeded the 50 percent achievement mark for the other two. Thus, the report closes the HorizonNOW 2025 chapter and serves as an important baseline for tracking progress under HorizonNOW 2030, the company’s sustainability agenda for the next five years.
By aligning with ESRS requirements and strengthening data quality and reporting processes, the company is preparing for the next generation of sustainability reporting while already providing stakeholders with reliable, decision-useful information and enabling easier comparison of its sustainability performance with that of other companies. “Transparency and accountability are key factors for sustainable business success,” added Marm. “With our new report, we not only provide our stakeholders with detailed insights into our performance and progress over the past year but also demonstrate how sustainability continues to be embedded in our long-term business strategy.” With HorizonNOW 2030, Siegwerk has set the course for the next five years of its sustainability journey, further underlining its ambition to contribute to a more sustainable and circular packaging industry through responsible business practices, continuous innovation, and close collaboration across the value chain.
