Siegwerk CSR partner Don Bosco builds youth confidence with project MOVE

Colombia

Alongside Siegwerk’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partner SOS Children’s Villages, Siegwerk Colombia works with NGO Don Bosco Mondo that supports disadvantaged children and young people worldwide. Through education and vocational training, youths in need are given the chance to lead an independent life in dignity.

Project MOVE is one of Don Bosco’s initiatives aimed at children and young adults to allow them to express feelings, practice discipline and reliability, and develop a good feeling for the body and their self-confidence. At the Ciudad Don Bosco (CDB) in Medellin, Colombia, the project has been in place since July 2018.

The MOVE project had two phases, culminating in the big shows "Beethoven Moves" in 2022 - with performances also near the Siegwerk headquarters in Bonn, Germany. Unfortunately, after the great success, there was no funding at first and the staff had to be laid off. “Because the need of the young people for these offers is so great and the impact so visible and sustainable, Medellin and Bonn were able to secure funding with Siegwerk’s support alongside other corporate sponsors,” said Nikole Peters, Manager Corporate Communications and CSR lead for Siegwerk.

The MOVE project was now relaunched in phase 3: Suitable teachers and trainers had to be found and hired anew; the program was enriched with the experiences from Phase 2.

Many young people take their cue from the success stories of participants in the second phase of the project, which creates strong motivation. Kendy, for example, got a dance engagement in Turkey through her international experience in Bonn, and is in contact with Don Bosco there. Johan is now a staff member at the Ciudad Don Bosco boarding school in the Semillas de Vida program, and passes on the spirit and impact of MOVE locally. Since he himself grew up in difficult circumstances, he can put himself in the shoes of the young people and has a good connection to them.
