More than 500 Siegburg-area children attended Siegwerk-sponsored Summer Reading Club

Germany

Siegwerk has a long-standing tradition of supporting local activities for children in need in the Siegburg area. The Summer Reading Club (Sommer Lese Club or SLC in German) is just one of the many local charitable activities the company is involved in.

This summer, 536 school children from the age of six attended the SLC which ran from early July through the school summer holidays. During this time, 3,400 books were read and more than 50 audio books were enjoyed. For every book, the children would get a special stamp

On the last day of August, the SLC held its big closing party at a local Siegwerk cinema with a special screening of Pets 2. To attend the closing party, a child had to have accumulated three stamps – the equivalent of reading thee books or listening to three audio books. In total, 450 achieved this goal.

Goal of the Summer Reading Club

The aim of the SLC has always been about creating and interest in reading while making the local public library an exciting place to visit. In addition to reading, this year children made bookmarks and learned more about comic and manga books with special workshops.
