Siegwerk Vietnam embraces SOS Children’s Villages YouthCan! program

Vietnam

SOS Children’s Villages’ YouthCan! initiative is aimed at preparing young adults in need for the challenges of joining the workforce through mentoring, first work experience, and soft and technical skills training.

This is part of a locally-led global program which the Siegwerk Vietnam team supports in conjunction with SOS Children’s Village in Ben Tre. Last year, two young ladies from the local Children’s Village were sponsored by Siegwerk as part of an internship.

Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, aged 19, was unable to complete her high school education and had no job skills. She came from a broken home and a very poor upbringing. Her goal in joining the YouthCan! program was to gain the required skills to secure a good job for her future.

Huynh Kim Thuong, also 19, had not finished high school and had no on-the-job-training. Like Tuyen, she too wanted to better her skills so she could enter the job market.

Through financial donations as part of Siegwerk Vietnam’s Corporate Social Responsibility budget, the company helped the two young women get a three month apprenticeship in a local beauty salon. The girls learned how to style hair, give facial massages and manicures. Following their first experience, the salon owner has agreed to train them to complete a 9-12 month advanced course in all aspects of beauty. The owner of the salon will pay all costs and the girls will be able to work independently when they finish their schooling in December of this year.
