Siegwerk partnered with PackPlus to discuss safe packaging for the future

As part of the International Packaging Conclave in conjunction with PackPlus 2017 in Pragathi Maidan, New Delhi, India, Siegwerk India joined forces with PackPlus organizers to host a symposium on ‘Safe Packaging for a Better Tomorrow,’ on August 4.

Targeting leading brand owners, converters, regulators and packaging trade media, the half-day symposium brought Siegwerk experts together with industry specialists to discuss safe food packaging and important Product Safety and Regulatory (PSR) topics.

The symposium was divided into three separate sessions including: product safety -- risk assessments of packaging material, migration and Toxicology -- a threat to consumer safety and packaging compliance -- connecting the dots.

The keynote speech was delivered by Kandarp Singh, Managing Director, Tetra Pak, India. This was followed by an impressive series of speeches from leading brands including Nestle, GlaxoSmithKline, Sun Pharma, General Mills, Henkel and ITC Paper Boards. There were interesting sessions lead by SGS India, the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research and Ernst & Young which highlighted the necessity for safe packaging for food items. Also joining the discussions on food safety was FSSAI, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Each session was chaired by a colleague from Siegwerk. The session on product safety was chaired and facilitated by Ashish Pradhan, CEO Siegwerk India, the session on migration and toxicology was chaired by Joerg-Peter Langhammer, Vice President Global HSE & Sustainability and packaging compliance was chaired by Evert Delbanco, Director Food Safety and Toxicology.

The program was closed by Ramu Ramanathan, Editor of Print Week – India’s most widely read trade magazine in the printing industry.

In addition to providing a great opportunity to network and share ideas, this was the first time in India that brand owners, convertors and FSSAI representatives shared the same platform. In all, more than 150 delegates were present for the conclave making it a successful event. The formal session was followed by a networking dinner.
