A sustainable printing ink being part of a printed product (packaging, newspaper, magazine …)*:

• Is beneficial and safe for individuals and society throughout its life cycle
• Meets market criteria for performance and cost
• Maximizes the use of renewable or recycled source materials wherever possible and reasonable 
• Is made from non-toxic**, non-mutagenic**, non-carcinogenic** and non-reproductive toxic** raw materials, which are safe in all probable end-of-life scenarios
• Is manufactured using environmentally compliant production technologies whilst involving the economical use of energies and other resources
• Is supporting effective industrial processes from printing to utilization and recycling of printed products

* A printing ink is an integral part of any printed article. Siegwerk defines the sustainability of a printing ink specifically in conjunction with its end use, which is the printed layer on any substrate. Additionally there is a careful selection of raw materials used in the formulation of inks, which contributes to the sustainability of SW inks. Note that the weight contribution of inks to a printed article is very low.
